Personal coaching, including Progress on One Thing, is part of the shared meeting report. Everyone who can open the report can read it.
Where One Thing appears
- In each person’s coaching card in the meeting report, next to their name, and under Progress on One Thing when the coach recognized progress.
- If your organization uses TenTenor’s new layout, on the team’s page under People, so the team can see what everyone is working on, and on Home as Your One Thing, in the card for your next meeting.
Who can set it
A team’s facilitators and the organization’s owners and administrators set One Things. If you are a member, agree on your One Thing with your facilitator and ask them to add it. One Thing must be on for both the organization and the team. It is on by default.- Organization: an owner or administrator can turn it on or off in Admin → Configuration, under One Thing. When it is off there, team settings and goals are ignored for new analyses.
- Team: a team facilitator, owner, or administrator can turn it on or off in the team’s settings.
Set a One Thing
1
Open the team's settings
Open the team and go to its settings, then select the One Thing tab.
2
Turn it on for the team
Make sure Enable One Thing for this team is on.
3
Write each person's goal
Under Team member goals, type the person’s One Thing in the box next to their name. Each goal can be up to 200 characters.
4
Save
Select Save for each goal you changed.
Write a good One Thing
Choose a behavior the coach can hear in a meeting. A good One Thing is:- Specific. It names one thing the person does, not a general quality.
- Observable. It shows up in what the person says during the meeting.
- Within their control. It depends on their own behavior, not on results outside the meeting.
How teams usually choose it
Most teams agree on a One Thing in a short conversation between the person and their facilitator, often during a one-on-one or quarterly check-in.- Read the person’s recent coaching cards. The Improvements list is a good place to find candidates.
- Pick the one improvement that would make the biggest difference to how the team meets.
- Write it as a behavior, using the person’s own words where you can.
- Keep it for several meetings. Change it when Progress on One Thing appears consistently, or when it no longer fits.
Help the coach recognize progress
The coach only recognizes progress for people it can identify by name in the meeting. To improve speaker identification:- Make sure each person’s name in TenTenor matches how they appear in the meeting.
- If your organization enables voice samples, ask team members to record one in Profile.
- Review the recording settings in Team settings if people share a room microphone.
